Hoe moet je Flocking vezels gebruiken?

How to use flocking fibers?

Great that you're interested in getting started on a flocking project! You probably know what you want to flock, but not quite how. In this blog post, we'll explain the best way to apply flocking fibers to your project!

Preparing for flocking

Preparation is easily forgotten, but it's incredibly important! Flocking fibers are tiny fibers, often no longer than 1 millimeter. You'll notice that these fibers remain suspended in the air during the flocking process, making them easily inhaled. We therefore recommend always wearing a face mask to prevent the flocking fibers from entering your nose or hitting your lungs.

Flocking fibers are applied using an applicator. For smaller projects, a manual applicator like the DutchFlock applicator is perfectly fine. If you're tackling a larger project or plan to flock regularly, you might consider investing in a flocking machine. More information about automatic flocking machines can be found on our flocking applicator page.

When applying the flocking fibers, not all of the fibers end up on the object being flocked. Therefore, we recommend laying down a tarp or, for smaller objects, placing it in a container before flocking. This will catch any flocking fibers that don't end up on the object and allow you to easily reuse them.

Flocking fibers can sometimes form clumps. If you don't want clumped flocking fibers on your object, we recommend first passing the flocking fibers through a sieve with a container underneath. This will break up the clumps! You can then add the sieved flocking fibers to a flocking applicator.

Step 1: Apply flocking glue

When flocking an object, it's important to ensure it's clean and dry before applying the flocking adhesive. Always use flocking adhesive to apply the flocking fibers. DutchFlock flocking adhesive is suitable for many surfaces and is a one-component, water-based adhesive. Not sure if this is the best flocking adhesive for your project? Contact us, and we'll be happy to provide you with personalized advice!

Once the surface of the object to be flocked is clean and dry, apply the adhesive thickly to the surface. Do this with a brush or paint roller. Ensure the adhesive is evenly distributed across the object.

Step 2: Apply flocking fibers

Fill the flocking applicator with the flocking fibers you've chosen for your project. As described in the preparation section, it's important to strain the flocking fibers through a sieve first to prevent clumps.

Did you know that DutchFlock has more than 25 colors of flocking fibers in stock and that many more color options are available upon request?

For an even and optimal result, be generous with the flocking fibers. Remember that any fibers that don't end up on the object can be reused. We recommend passing these collected fibers through a sieve first.

Step 3: Allow the flocking fibers to dry thoroughly

Once you're satisfied with the result and the density of the flocking fibers on your object, it's time to let them dry. Take your time! We recommend letting the object dry for at least 24 hours to ensure the adhesive has fully cured. Your flocking project is now complete!
