Flocking by hand or a flocking machine?
There are two ways to apply flock: by hand with a flock applicator, or with a flocking machine. Both work on the same basic principle – fibres on a glue layer – but differ in speed, evenness, price and application. In this guide we help you choose.
Flocking by hand with an applicator
With a hand-held applicator you apply flock precisely and in a controlled way. The benefits:

- Precise – ideal for detail work and small surfaces.
- Accessible – no experience or power needed.
Downsides: on larger surfaces it takes more time and perfectly even coverage is a little harder than with a machine.
Flocking with a machine
A flocking machine charges the fibres electrostatically. As a result they land faster, straighter and more evenly on the object. Benefits:
- Speed – larger surfaces in less time.
- Evenness – the electrostatic charge stands the fibres neatly upright, for an even, high-quality result.
- Consistency – reliable result with repeated or professional use.
